This is the latest screenshot of our game BioRift, now we have textured environments and characters, hopefully the art you see will be mostly in the game we present at the expo.

I expect a trailer to be released this week and then more marketing materials and screenshots of the game.

Building website with a better style

Posted on : 20-11-2012 | By : admin | In : Website Updates

I have started work on building up a better style for the SeeCodeNotGames website and also generally for the Secoden CMS.
Some features that previously worked may be temporarily disabled or not working the way they did before, these will all be resolved in time. (Certainly by the time Writing Ghost 2.1 is released as it uses the CMS for the store).

BioRift – Our zombie game update

Posted on : 16-11-2012 | By : admin | In : Game Development

Hello, I’ve been working on a video game called BioRift for the last few weeks. BioRift is a zombie game where instead of shooting the undead in the face with pump-action shotguns you slow them down long enough to escape and complete puzzles. There are four pieces of equipment available to the main character: A portal glove which shoot time travelling portals, a gravity device allowing the player to pull and push objects around the rooms, an energizer which grants temporary electrical power to lights to illuminate a room otherwise darkened by power failure and finally a standard issue M16 assault rifle.

Here are some screenshots of the blockout, note they have no textures yet:

Some new projects to expect in the next three months

Hello, it is that time of year again when students return to their natural habitat (and I don’t mean the library).
I am James Record a final year Computer Games Programming student at the University of Derby and this is what I will be working on in the next three months.

By December 2012 there will be some new projects for this website.

Writing Ghost for Windows 8
I am writing a new version of Writing Ghost for the brand new Windows 8 app store, although I cannot promise it will make the store itself, I will be working on a version which will be compatible with Windows RT and would be suitable for users to use the program on new devices.
Writing Ghost Win8 will be based on the latest Writing Ghost 2.1 file system (which I haven’t forgotten about). Hopefully I will be able to release v2.1 along with the Win8 version (although again I mention, I do not know whether it will make the public app store).
There will be more on this to come, along with possible screenshots and development stages.
Depending on popularity and how many people use windows 8 will depend on whether further work is continued on the project after December.

Zombie Game
I am also working on a computer game based around the idea of time and zombies. I cannot go into specifics (partly because they will change and also because this is a work in progress and there are ears listening). But basically it involves travelling back-and-forth between two times in the near future to solve puzzles and defeat a zombie outbreak.
To stay away from clichés there will be minimal conventional weaponry, most of the game play is puzzle based and exploring the map, shooting zombies is only necessary to survive and stay alive long enough to see the next puzzle.
I will not be working on this project alone: There will be 3 programmers and 8 artists (spread between environments, character modelling, rigging and animations and prop and 2D art). There are currently 11 of us in total making this so far the largest video game development team I have worked in.
Also there will be screenshots, videos and the demo will be available on completion in December for people to play. This will be a demo and no further work is expected beyond December.
More blog post will be made later in development.

Writing Ghost v2.1 back on development

Posted on : 19-07-2012 | By : admin | In : Updates

After much contemplation about the future of Writing Ghost as a software program with many ideas and abandoned features, I can now say that it is currently under re-development and will be released with new features and hopefully a lot of bug fixes from v2.0.

I will not specify the launch date and whether it will be 2.1 beta or the full thing but will hope it will be before the end of September 2012.

Code Perfect will unlikely be in this version (maybe one day though) and we haven’t decided on whether to build the Store yet but stay tuned and be ready for the latest version soon.

Also continue downloading v2.0 in the meantime and help us debug it by suggesting features and report bugs and fatal errors to our Bug Tracker. or report to our bug tracking Email

Updating website

Posted on : 03-07-2012 | By : admin | In : Website Updates

SeeCodeNotGames.com is going through an important update, we are getting rid of all the ‘developed’ items and replacing it with a more general portfolio type site instead. All software including Writing Ghost and the games are still available for free download from the same url but the pages may have been changed.

Writing Ghost is getting a directory

Posted on : 13-10-2011 | By : admin | In : Updates

The next version of Writing Ghost will have a directory (called the store) to make publishing your writings among others easier, you will be able to browse by category or search. You can also submit your own to the store for others to read your’s, now of course you don’t have to if you want to keep it private but for those who want others to read it while maintaining secure reading then this will be good for you.
